Grand Prairie Lemon Law

Grand Prairie Lemon Law Basics

Claims from Grand Prairie fall under Tex. Occ. Code §2301.601 to §2301.613, which covers new motor vehicles purchased or leased in Texas for personal, family, or household use (also covers towable recreational vehicles). If the defect is still there once your repair orders reach one of the repair limits in the box above, and you are within the deadline, you may have a claim. Our Texas Lemon Law Attorneys page has the statute text, the deadlines and the used-car rules.

Step by Step

How a Grand Prairie Lemon Law Claim Works

This is what happens after you call us from Grand Prairie.

1

Document Your Repairs

Keep every repair order from your Grand Prairie dealership, even the short ones. TX lemon law needs written proof of each repair attempt, and those papers are the proof.

2

Free Case Evaluation

We read your repair history against the Texas statute and tell you whether the car qualifies. The review costs nothing, and there are no attorney's fees unless we recover for you.

3

We File the Claim

We write and send the paperwork, including any written notice to the manufacturer that TX law requires. We deal with the manufacturer for you.

4

You Get Compensated

The case ends with a refund, a replacement vehicle or a cash settlement. There are no attorney's fees unless we recover for you.

Is Your Grand Prairie Car a Lemon? Texas's 3-Step Test

1

Does the Defect Substantially Impair Use, Value, or Safety?

Under Texas law, the defect has to substantially impair the vehicle's use, value, or safety. These defects came up in one of Easy Lemon's own Texas cases:

  • ⚠️2024 Cadillac Lyriq: Recurring blank display/IPC screen
  • ⚠️2024 Cadillac Lyriq: Autonomous emergency braking in rain
  • ⚠️2024 Cadillac Lyriq: A/C compressor bracket twisted
  • ⚠️2024 Cadillac Lyriq: ABS warning and battery discharge
2

Have You Met the Repair Attempt Threshold?

In Texas the test is 4 repair attempts for the same defect (or 2 for serious safety defects), or 30 cumulative days out of service, as long as the claim is brought within the deadline in step 3. For a defect that could cause serious bodily injury or death, 2 repair attempts are enough. Count the visits on your repair orders to see where you stand.

3

Did It Happen Within the Rights Period?

In Texas the deadline is 6 months after the earliest of the express warranty expiration or 24 months/24,000 miles from original delivery. We check it against the delivery date on your contract and the dates on your repair orders.

If you are not sure about your dates, call us. The consultation is free. 📞 (855) 435-3666

If you are past the deadline, call us anyway. We may still be able to help.

Texas trial courts

Court and Venue in Grand Prairie

Parts of Grand Prairie lie in Dallas County, Ellis County and Tarrant County, per the 2020 Census. A Texas lemon law claim starts as a complaint to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV), not as a lawsuit. For a warranty suit filed in court, district courts are the general trial courts in Texas, and the Texas Office of Court Administration lists numbered district courts: 32 for Dallas County, 4 for Ellis County and 24 for Tarrant County. County courts at law can share that civil jurisdiction. Which court hears a particular case still depends on its facts, the warranty issues involved and the law it is brought under.

The Texas lemon law is Tex. Occ. Code §2301.601 to §2301.613. TxDMV cannot order a refund or replacement unless the manufacturer received written notice of the defect and a chance to cure it (Tex. Occ. Code §2301.606(c)). The complaint must be filed with TxDMV, which holds a hearing.

The repair test in the statute is 4 repair attempts for the same defect (or 2 for serious safety defects), or 30 cumulative days with the vehicle out of service. The statutory remedy is a replacement vehicle or full refund (minus reasonable use offset).

What the Statute Says

Texas Lemon Law: The Rules That Decide a Grand Prairie Claim

Court and Venue above has the repair test, the deadline and the arbitration rule for Texas. The rules below are other points of Texas law.

Notable provisions of Texas Lemon Law

Texas uses a state-administered complaint process through TxDMV (not traditional arbitration). Only 2 repair attempts needed for serious safety hazards. Texas also covers towable recreational vehicles (RVs). The TxDMV filing fee is $35, and the other side pays it back if the consumer wins.

Your Rights Under TX Law

What The Manufacturer Owes You

Under the statute, the remedies open to Texas drivers are replacement vehicle or full refund (minus reasonable use offset). If your Grand Prairie car qualifies under TX law, the case usually ends in one of the three ways below.

$

Refund

You return the car and the manufacturer pays back the price, taxes, registration fees and finance charges, minus a reasonable use offset.

Replacement Vehicle

The manufacturer replaces the car with a comparable new one at its own cost.

$

Cash Settlement

You keep the car and receive a payment for its lost value. That payment is negotiated. The statute does not list it.

Have Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

The answers below are based on Texas law and on the paperwork Grand Prairie drivers usually send us.

PROCESS & TIMELINE
Most of the Texas cases we handle settle at the written-demand stage, without a lawsuit. How long that takes depends on your repair history and on the manufacturer. The Texas filing deadline is within 6 months after the earliest of the express warranty expiration or 24 months/24,000 miles from original delivery.
ELIGIBILITY
It may. Under Tex. Occ. Code §2301.601 to §2301.613, your Grand Prairie car can qualify if a defect covered by the warranty is still there after 4 repair attempts for the same defect (or 2 for serious safety defects), or 30 cumulative days out of service. The statute covers new motor vehicles purchased or leased in Texas for personal, family, or household use (also covers towable recreational vehicles).
Tex. Occ. Code §2301.601 to §2301.613 covers new motor vehicles purchased or leased in Texas for personal, family, or household use (also covers towable recreational vehicles). If you bought used, send the paperwork anyway, including any written warranty that came with the car.
REMEDIES
Tex. Occ. Code §2301.601 to §2301.613 provides for replacement vehicle or full refund (minus reasonable use offset). Which one you get depends on your repair history and on what the manufacturer offers.
The Texas Lemon Law has no attorney-fee provision of its own. A consumer who wins the TxDMV case gets the $35 filing fee back. We work on contingency, so you pay nothing upfront and there is no attorney's fee unless we recover for you. When a manufacturer settles or loses, we ask it to pay our fee on top of your recovery. The federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. §2310(d)) provides a fee-shifting route of its own when a written warranty is breached. Our fee agreement is one page.
ATTORNEY & TRUST
Nothing upfront, and no attorney's fee unless we recover for you. The Texas Lemon Law has no attorney-fee provision of its own. A consumer who wins the TxDMV case gets the $35 filing fee back. In most successful Texas claims, the manufacturer pays our fee. Repair orders are free from the dealer. We pay the filing costs while the case is open. What Our Clients Are Saying

Easy Lemon has handled 3,000+ lemon law cases‡, recovering over $50 million** for clients.

“I'm not a lawyer, but I tried. I filed complaints with the BBB. I called the manufacturer's customer service line so many times they knew my voice. I even wrote a letter to the dealership owner. Nothing.
My Honda Pilot's fuel system kept throwing check engine codes for the evaporative emissions system. Four visits, four 'fixes,' four returns of the light.
A friend said 'just call a lemon law firm already.' I called Easy Lemon and spoke to Natalie Nassi. First thing she said: 'You've done the hard work already. Now let us do ours.'
She was right. She took my mountain of paperwork—my letters, my complaint case numbers, my repair orders—and organized it into a real claim. The manufacturer settled in two months.
Why them? Natalie valued the effort I'd already put in. She didn't start from zero; she built on my frustration. That respect made all the difference.”

“My Jeep Wrangler's manual transmission would pop out of reverse. Dealer kept it twice, said they couldn't replicate. Third time they replaced the shifter. Still popped out. I was backing out of my driveway and it nearly rolled into the street. Called Easy Lemon and Natalie Nassi said that's a major safety defect. She took my case and Jeep bought it back. Now I drive something that stays in gear.”

“My Ram 2500's check engine light came on for the same evap code four times in six months. Dealer kept replacing gas caps, sensors, the whole runaround. Light would stay off for a week then pop back on. I was so tired of seeing that orange glow on my dash every morning. Called Easy Lemon and they took my service records and ran with it. Four months later, Ram sent a settlement check. No more anxiety every time I start the truck.”
