How your Connecticut claim gets built

Our lemon law work is directed by Steven P. Nassi, Esq., Managing Partner, Easy Lemon by RockPoint Law P.C. A Connecticut claim gets built on two things: the Connecticut lemon law statute, and the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, which applies in all fifty states. Send the repair orders and the purchase or lease paperwork, and we can tell you which of the two fits your vehicle.

Vernon Lemon Law

Vernon Lemon Law Basics

Connecticut's lemon law, Conn. Gen. Stat. §42-179, is the one that applies in Vernon. It covers new motor vehicles purchased or leased in Connecticut for personal, family, or household use, and you may have a claim once your repair orders reach one of the repair limits in the box above, as long as the defect is still there and you are inside the deadline. Our Connecticut Lemon Law Attorneys page has the full statute text, the filing deadlines and the used-car rules.

Step by Step

How a Vernon Lemon Law Claim Works

This is what happens after you call us from Vernon.

1

Document Your Repairs

Keep every repair order from your Vernon dealership, even the short ones. CT lemon law needs written proof of each repair attempt, and those papers are the proof.

2

Free Case Evaluation

We read your repair history against the Connecticut statute and tell you whether the car qualifies. The review costs nothing, and there are no attorney's fees unless we recover for you.

3

We File the Claim

We write and send the paperwork, including any written notice to the manufacturer that CT law requires. We deal with the manufacturer for you.

4

You Get Compensated

The case ends with a refund, a replacement vehicle or a cash settlement. There are no attorney's fees unless we recover for you.

Is Your Vernon Car a Lemon? Connecticut's 3-Step Test

1

Does the Defect Substantially Impair Use, Value, or Safety?

Under Connecticut law, the defect has to substantially impair the vehicle's use, value, or safety.

2

Have You Met the Repair Attempt Threshold?

In Connecticut the test is 4 repair attempts for the same defect (or 2 for serious safety defects), or 30 cumulative calendar days out of service, as long as the claim is brought within the deadline in step 3. For a defect that could cause serious bodily injury or death, 2 repair attempts are enough. Count the visits on your repair orders to see where you stand.

3

Did It Happen Within the Rights Period?

The Connecticut lemon law does not set its own deadline to sue, but defects must be reported within 2 years or 24,000 miles from original delivery, whichever is earlier. We check it against the delivery date on your contract and the dates on your repair orders.

If you are not sure about your dates, call us. The consultation is free. 📞 (855) 435-3666

If you are past the deadline, call us anyway. We may still be able to help.

Tolland County

Court and Venue in Vernon

Vernon is in Tolland County, but Connecticut assigns civil cases by town, not county. The Judicial Branch's town list places Vernon in the Tolland Judicial District of the Connecticut Superior Court, the state's trial court for civil cases. Which court hears a particular case still depends on its facts, the warranty issues involved and the law it is brought under.

The Connecticut lemon law is Conn. Gen. Stat. §42-179. The claim must go through the state-run arbitration program of the Department of Consumer Protection.

The repair test in the statute is 4 repair attempts for the same defect (or 2 for serious safety defects), or 30 cumulative calendar days with the vehicle out of service. The statutory remedy is a replacement vehicle, full refund, or monetary damages. The court may award a consumer who prevails costs and reasonable attorney fees.

Open recalls on your vehicle can be checked against NHTSA records at easylemon.com/recalls. A recall alone is not a lemon law claim.

What the Statute Says

Connecticut Lemon Law: The Rules That Decide a Vernon Claim

Some Connecticut rules sit outside the repair test, the arbitration rule and the deadline, which you can find under Court and Venue above. Those other rules are here.

Notable provisions of Connecticut Lemon Law

Connecticut has a state-run arbitration program (not manufacturer-run). Only 2 repair attempts needed for defects that could cause death or serious injury. Also covers leased vehicles.

Your Rights Under CT Law

What The Manufacturer Owes You

Connecticut law provides for replacement vehicle, full refund, or monetary damages. There are three ways a qualifying case from Vernon usually ends under CT law.

$

Refund

Give the car back and the manufacturer repays the price you paid, with the taxes, registration fees and finance charges.

Replacement Vehicle

The manufacturer hands you a comparable new car and pays the cost of the exchange.

$

Cash Settlement

The car stays yours and the manufacturer pays for the value the defect took off it.

Have Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

The answers below are based on Connecticut law and on the paperwork Vernon drivers usually send us.

PROCESS & TIMELINE
Most of the Connecticut cases we handle settle at the written-demand stage, without a lawsuit. How long that takes depends on your repair history and on the manufacturer. The Connecticut lemon law does not set its own filing deadline, but defects must be reported within 2 years or 24,000 miles from original delivery, whichever is earlier.
Bring the repair orders from your Vernon dealer, your purchase or lease contract and your warranty booklet. Of the three, the repair orders carry the case. Each one shows the date, the mileage and what the service department did or did not fix. If a few are missing, ask the service desk for copies.
Usually not. Most lemon law cases we handle for Vernon drivers settle with the manufacturer before a lawsuit is filed. On arbitration, the Connecticut rule is: must use state-run arbitration program through the Department of Consumer Protection. We prepare that filing for you.
ELIGIBILITY
Conn. Gen. Stat. §42-179 covers new motor vehicles purchased or leased in Connecticut for personal, family, or household use. If you bought used, send the paperwork anyway, including any written warranty that came with the car.
REMEDIES
In Connecticut, the court may award a consumer who prevails costs and reasonable attorney fees. We work on contingency, so you pay nothing upfront and there is no attorney's fee unless we recover for you. When a manufacturer settles or loses, we ask it to pay our fee on top of your recovery. The federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. §2310(d)) adds a second fee-shifting route when a written warranty is breached. Our fee agreement is one page.
ATTORNEY & TRUST
Nothing upfront, and no attorney's fee unless we recover for you. In Connecticut, the court may award a consumer who prevails costs and reasonable attorney fees. In most successful Connecticut claims, the manufacturer pays our fee. Repair orders are free from the dealer. We pay the filing costs while the case is open. To start, send us the repair orders for a free case review.

What Our Clients Are Saying

Easy Lemon has handled 3,000+ lemon law cases‡.

“Wasn't sure I had a case because my problem seemed small. But it was constant. Same thing over and over. The service manager started avoiding me. Called Easy Lemon just to see. They said send your records. I did. Next thing I know, the manufacturer is offering a settlement. Not small at all. Glad I didn't talk myself out of calling.”

“My Dodge Challenger's fuel gauge would read empty when the tank was full. Dealer replaced the sending unit, then the whole fuel pump assembly. Same problem. I ran out of gas twice because I thought I had fuel. Stupid design. Called Easy Lemon and they said a safety feature like fuel gauge failing is a big deal. They fought Dodge and got me a buyback. New car doesn't lie to me about how much gas I have.”

“My Honda Pilot's backup camera would go black right when I needed it. Dealer replaced it once. Broke again. Replaced it again. Third time they said 'they're working on it.' I have kids, I need that camera. Called Easy Lemon and Natalie Nassi said a safety feature failing repeatedly counts. She filed the claim and Honda settled with cash. Got it fixed at an independent shop and pocketed the rest. Camera's been fine since.”
