How your Connecticut claim gets built

Our lemon law work is directed by Steven P. Nassi, Esq., Managing Partner, Easy Lemon by RockPoint Law P.C. A Connecticut claim gets built on two things: the Connecticut lemon law statute, and the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, which applies in all fifty states. Send the repair orders and the purchase or lease paperwork, and we can tell you which of the two fits your vehicle.

East Haven Lemon Law

East Haven Lemon Law Basics

Connecticut's lemon law, Conn. Gen. Stat. §42-179, is the one that applies in East Haven. It covers new motor vehicles purchased or leased in Connecticut for personal, family, or household use, and you may have a claim once your repair orders reach one of the repair limits in the box above, as long as the defect is still there and you are inside the deadline. Our Connecticut Lemon Law Attorneys page has the full statute text, the filing deadlines and the used-car rules.

Step by Step

How an East Haven Lemon Law Claim Works

This is what happens after you call us from East Haven.

1

Document Your Repairs

Keep every repair order from your East Haven dealership, even the short ones. CT lemon law needs written proof of each repair attempt, and those papers are the proof.

2

Free Case Evaluation

We read your repair history against the Connecticut statute and tell you whether the car qualifies. The review costs nothing, and there are no attorney's fees unless we recover for you.

3

We File the Claim

We write and send the paperwork, including any written notice to the manufacturer that CT law requires. We deal with the manufacturer for you.

4

You Get Compensated

The case ends with a refund, a replacement vehicle or a cash settlement. There are no attorney's fees unless we recover for you.

Conn. Gen. Stat. §42-179

Is Your East Haven Car a Lemon? Connecticut's 3-Step Test

1

Does the Defect Substantially Impair Use, Value, or Safety?

Under Connecticut law, the defect has to substantially impair the vehicle's use, value, or safety.

2

Have You Met the Repair Attempt Threshold?

In Connecticut the test is 4 repair attempts for the same defect (or 2 for serious safety defects), or 30 cumulative calendar days out of service, as long as the claim is brought within the deadline in step 3. For a defect that could cause serious bodily injury or death, 2 repair attempts are enough. Count the visits on your repair orders to see where you stand.

3

Did It Happen Within the Rights Period?

The Connecticut lemon law does not set its own deadline to sue, but defects must be reported within 2 years or 24,000 miles from original delivery, whichever is earlier. We check it against the delivery date on your contract and the dates on your repair orders.

If you are not sure about your dates, call us. The consultation is free. 📞 (855) 435-3666

If you are past the deadline, call us anyway. We may still be able to help.

New Haven County

Court and Venue in East Haven

East Haven is in New Haven County, but Connecticut assigns civil cases by town, not county. The Judicial Branch's town list places East Haven in the New Haven Judicial District of the Connecticut Superior Court, the state's trial court for civil cases. Which court hears a particular case still depends on its facts, the warranty issues involved and the law it is brought under.

The Connecticut lemon law is Conn. Gen. Stat. §42-179. The claim must go through the state-run arbitration program of the Department of Consumer Protection.

The repair test in the statute is 4 repair attempts for the same defect (or 2 for serious safety defects), or 30 cumulative calendar days with the vehicle out of service. The statutory remedy is a replacement vehicle, full refund, or monetary damages. The court may award a consumer who prevails costs and reasonable attorney fees.

Open recalls on your vehicle can be checked against NHTSA records at easylemon.com/recalls. A recall alone is not a lemon law claim.

What the Statute Says

Connecticut Lemon Law: The Rules That Decide an East Haven Claim

Looking for the repair test, the deadline or the arbitration rule? Those are under Court and Venue above. Connecticut law has a few more rules, and they are listed here.

Notable provisions of Connecticut Lemon Law

Connecticut has a state-run arbitration program (not manufacturer-run). Only 2 repair attempts needed for defects that could cause death or serious injury. Also covers leased vehicles.

Your Rights Under CT Law

What The Manufacturer Owes You

Under the statute, the remedies open to Connecticut drivers are replacement vehicle, full refund, or monetary damages. If your East Haven car qualifies under CT law, the case usually ends in one of the three ways below.

$

Refund

You return the car and the manufacturer pays back the price, taxes, registration fees and finance charges.

Replacement Vehicle

The manufacturer replaces the car with a comparable new one at its own cost.

$

Cash Settlement

You keep the car and receive a payment for its lost value.

Have Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

The answers below are based on Connecticut law and on the paperwork East Haven drivers usually send us.

PROCESS & TIMELINE
Bring the repair orders from your East Haven dealer, your purchase or lease contract and your warranty booklet. Of the three, the repair orders carry the case. Each one shows the date, the mileage and what the service department did or did not fix. If a few are missing, ask the service desk for copies.
Usually not. Most lemon law cases we handle for East Haven drivers settle with the manufacturer before a lawsuit is filed. On arbitration, the Connecticut rule is: must use state-run arbitration program through the Department of Consumer Protection. We prepare that filing for you.
ELIGIBILITY
It may. Under Conn. Gen. Stat. §42-179, your East Haven car can qualify if a defect covered by the warranty is still there after 4 repair attempts for the same defect (or 2 for serious safety defects), or 30 cumulative calendar days out of service. The statute covers new motor vehicles purchased or leased in Connecticut for personal, family, or household use.
We handle any warranty defect that substantially impairs the car's use, value or safety and that the dealer could not fix. The defects we see most often are engine stalling and misfires, transmission shudder or failure, electrical faults, brake and steering problems, and driver-assist systems that brake or drift on their own. Connecticut has a state-run arbitration program (not manufacturer-run).
REMEDIES
Conn. Gen. Stat. §42-179 provides for replacement vehicle, full refund, or monetary damages. Which one you get depends on your repair history and on what the manufacturer offers.
ATTORNEY & TRUST
You will have one assigned attorney and a direct line. You get a copy of every letter we send and a note whenever the manufacturer responds. We first check your repair history against Conn. Gen. Stat. §42-179. Then written notice goes to the manufacturer, and we demand the statutory remedy, replacement vehicle, full refund, or monetary damages. Most cases settle at that stage. If a case does not settle, we take the next formal step that Connecticut law requires.

What Our Clients Are Saying

Easy Lemon has handled 1,500+ lemon law matters‡.

“My Ram 2500's check engine light came on for the same evap code four times in six months. Dealer kept replacing gas caps, sensors, the whole runaround. Light would stay off for a week then pop back on. I was so tired of seeing that orange glow on my dash every morning. Called Easy Lemon and they took my service records and ran with it. Four months later, Ram sent a settlement check. No more anxiety every time I start the truck.”
