Do You Qualify?
About a minute is all it takes to find out. There are four questions.
You Likely Qualify!
So far your answers fit the basic lemon law test. An attorney has to confirm it from the repair orders. We handle cases on a contingency basis, which means no attorney’s fees unless we recover for you.
You May Not Qualify Under Standard Lemon Law
Your answers do not fit the standard lemon law test, but other consumer protection laws might still apply. Contact us anyway.

How your Ohio claim gets built
Our lemon law work is directed by Steven P. Nassi, Esq., Managing Partner, Easy Lemon by RockPoint Law P.C. An Ohio claim gets built on two things: the Ohio lemon law statute, and the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, which applies in all fifty states. Send the repair orders and the purchase or lease paperwork, and we can tell you which of the two fits your vehicle.

Mentor Lemon Law Basics
Ohio's lemon law, Ohio Rev. Code §1345.71 to §1345.77, is the one that applies in Mentor. It covers new passenger cars and noncommercial motor vehicles purchased or leased in Ohio for personal, family, or household use. You may have a claim once your repair orders reach one of the repair limits in the box above, as long as the defect is still there and you are inside the deadline. Our Ohio Lemon Law Attorneys page has the full statute text, the filing deadlines and the used-car rules.

Is Your Mentor Car a Lemon? Ohio's 3-Step Test
Does the Defect Substantially Impair Use, Value, or Safety?
Under Ohio law, the defect has to substantially impair the vehicle's use, value, or safety. These defects came up in one of Easy Lemon's own Ohio cases:
- ⚠️2025 Kia Sorento: Day-one no-start with check engine light
- ⚠️2025 Kia Sorento: HPCU assembly failure
- ⚠️2025 Kia Sorento: Fuel rail pressure sensor failure
- ⚠️2025 Kia Sorento: Original main battery failure
Have You Met the Repair Attempt Threshold?
In Ohio the test is 3 repair attempts for the same defect (1 for serious safety defects), 8 or more attempts to repair any defect, or 30 cumulative calendar days out of service, as long as the claim is brought within the deadline in step 3. For a defect that could cause serious bodily injury or death, 1 repair attempt is enough. Count the visits on your repair orders to see where you stand.
Did It Happen Within the Rights Period?
In Ohio, a claim must be brought within 5 years from original delivery, and defects must first be reported within 1 year or 18,000 miles, whichever is earlier. We check that deadline against the delivery date on your contract and the dates on your repair orders.
If you are not sure about your dates, call us. The consultation is free. 📞 (855) 435-3666
If you think you are past a deadline, call us anyway. We may still be able to help.
Court and Venue in Mentor
Mentor is in Lake County. Lake County's general civil trial court is the Lake County Court of Common Pleas, General Division. Ohio also has a lower court for smaller civil claims, so the amount in dispute can change where a case is filed. Which court hears a particular case still depends on its facts, the warranty issues involved and the law it is brought under.
The Ohio lemon law is Ohio Rev. Code §1345.71 to §1345.77. If the manufacturer's arbitration program is state-certified, the consumer must use it.
The repair test in the statute is 3 repair attempts for the same defect (or 1 for serious safety defects), or 30 cumulative calendar days with the vehicle out of service. The statutory remedy is a replacement vehicle or a full refund, minus a reasonable offset for use. Under the statute, a consumer who prevails can recover attorney fees from the manufacturer.

Ohio Lemon Law: The Rules That Decide a Mentor Claim
Looking for the repair test or the arbitration rule? Those are under Court and Venue above. Ohio law has a few more rules, and they are listed here.
Notable provisions of Ohio Lemon Law
Ohio requires 3 repair attempts, or 1 where the nonconformity results in a condition likely to cause death or serious bodily injury if the vehicle is driven. Eight or more attempts to repair any nonconformity also raise the presumption. The law covers the first year/18,000 miles. The consumer must report the nonconformity within that period; the chapter prescribes no certified-mail and no final-repair-attempt requirement.

What The Manufacturer Owes You
Under the statute, the remedy open to Ohio drivers is a replacement vehicle or a full refund, minus a reasonable offset for use. If your Mentor car qualifies, the case usually ends in one of the three ways below.
Refund
You return the car and the manufacturer pays back the price, taxes, registration fees and finance charges, minus a reasonable use offset.
Replacement Vehicle
The manufacturer replaces the car with a comparable new one at its own cost.
Cash Settlement
You keep the car and receive a payment for its lost value. That payment is negotiated. The statute does not list it.
