2025 Chevrolet Tahoe Lemon Law Case Study: Delaware
A 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe With CEL, Engine Metal Contamination, and Power Loss
Our client purchased a 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe in Delaware (intake purchase / lease date: July 2025). Documented repair history describes a check engine light (CEL) with an error message stating to reduce acceleration, an engine rattling noise with excessive metal in the filter and metal shavings in the lower pan, a failed thrust bearing requiring engine replacement, a subsequent lack of power with a heavy pinging/grinding noise around 3,000 RPMs, turbocharger and oil feed pipe replacement, a rattle on start from a faulty exhaust clamp, a solid engine light with the vehicle unable to go over 65 mph (DTC P0101 / air hose), a fluid leak underneath the vehicle, and a later fuel injector concern. Current mileage on the odometer: 7,000. Intake primary problem category: Engine/ Transmission. Intake also indicates the vehicle was in the repair shop for more than 30 days at some point.
The summary of repairs documents that technicians replaced the engine along with corresponding parts after TAC advised that the thrust bearing had failed, then later replaced the turbocharger and oil feed pipes after the vehicle still had a lack of power and a heavy pinging/grinding noise around 3,000 RPMs. With those engine and transmission defects documented across the service visits described below, the client contacted Easy Lemon for legal assistance under the lemon law.
What Went Wrong
- CEL / reduce acceleration: “The CEL is on with an error message stating to reduce acceleration.”
- Metal contamination / thrust bearing failure: technicians found excessive metal in the filter and metal shavings in the lower pan; TAC advised replacing the engine as the thrust bearing had failed; the engine was replaced along with corresponding parts.
- Lack of power / pinging-grinding at 3,000 RPMs: after the engine replacement, the vehicle had a lack of power as well as a heavy pinging/grinding noise around 3,000 RPMs; TAC advised replacing the turbocharger and oil feed pipes, which was then performed.
- Rattle on start / faulty exhaust clamp: a rattle noise was reported when starting the vehicle; technicians found a faulty exhaust clamp that broke, which was then replaced.
- Solid engine light / can’t go over 65 mph / DTC P0101 / fluid leak / fuel injector: the engine light was reportedly solid and the vehicle can’t go over 65 mph; technicians found DTC P0101 and tubing slightly off creating an open in the system; a fluid leak was also reported underneath the vehicle; a later visit concerned the fuel injector.
What the Documented Service Visits Showed
August 27–October 24, 2025: CEL / Metal Shavings / Engine Replacement / Turbocharger
The CEL is on with an error message stating to reduce acceleration. Technicians found that the engine has a rattling noise and opened a TAC case. They then found excessive metal in the filter, and metal shavings in the lower pan as well as the pan area. TAC then advised the technicians to replace the engine as the thrust bearing had failed. The technicians then replaced the engine along with all corresponding parts; however, the vehicle had a lack of power as well as a heavy pinging/grinding noise around 3,000 RPMs. They were then advised by TAC to replace the turbocharger and oil feed pipes, which was then performed.
November 14, 2025: Rattle on Start / Faulty Exhaust Clamp
A rattle noise was reported when starting the vehicle. Technicians found a faulty exhaust clamp that broke, which was then replaced.
December 17–18, 2025: Solid Engine Light / Can’t Go Over 65 mph / DTC P0101 / Fluid Leak
The engine light was reportedly solid, and the vehicle can’t go over 65mph. Technicians found DTC P0101, and found that the tubing was slightly off, creating an open in the system. They then put the air hose on correctly. A fluid leak was also reported underneath the vehicle.
February 15, 2026: Fuel Injector Concern
No repair order was provided; however the client states that the vehicle was brought to the dealership on around February 15, 2026, due to issues with the fuel injector.
