2024 Chevrolet Corvette Lemon Law Case Study: Texas
A 2024 Chevrolet Corvette With Recurring Transmission Failures
Our client purchased a 2024 Chevrolet Corvette in Texas (purchase date 10/2024). Documented service history describes a loud bang and a jerk as if another vehicle had hit it, a tachometer and oil pressure gauge that both dropped to 0, diagnostic codes indicating issues with the transmission control solenoid valve and clutch 2 pressure discharge, the vehicle jerking when placed in reverse, a knocking noise from the vehicle during cold starts, a smell like burning transmission fluid after driving for 30-45 minutes, a squeaking noise from the rear driver side while driving over bumps, and later a failure to shift into reverse with an IPC message stating “Idle Creep Disabled.” Current mileage on the odometer: 7,000. Intake records confirm the vehicle was in the repair shop for more than 30 days at a time.
“The tachometer and oil pressure gauge both dropped to 0.” Case notes continue: “The second customer complaint involved the vehicle jerking when placed in reverse, as if another vehicle had hit it, though no one was nearby.” “The customer reported smelling what seemed like burning transmission fluid after driving for 30-45 minutes.” Later: “when attempting to reverse the car, it wouldn’t shift into reverse and could only move forward” and the IPC message stated “Idle Creep Disabled.” With those defects documented across the service visits described below, the client contacted Easy Lemon for legal assistance under the lemon law.
What Went Wrong
- Tachometer / oil pressure drop: tachometer and oil pressure gauge both dropped to 0 after a loud bang and a jerk.
- Transmission control solenoid / clutch pressure: codes P0776 and P2854 indicating issues with the transmission control solenoid valve and clutch 2 pressure discharge; later DTCs P0776, P2856, and P0700.
- Reverse gear jerk / intermittent reverse: vehicle jerking when placed in reverse; intermittent issues with reverse gear.
- Cold-start knock / burning fluid smell: knocking noise from the vehicle during cold starts; smelling what seemed like burning transmission fluid after driving for 30-45 minutes.
- No reverse / Idle Creep Disabled: wouldn’t shift into reverse and could only move forward; IPC message stated “Idle Creep Disabled”; vehicle would only shift into 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th gears.
What the Documented Service Visits Showed
September 10, 2024: Loud Bang, Tach/Oil Drop to 0, Transmission Codes
The customer reported that the vehicle was towed in after hearing a loud bang and feeling a jerk, as if another vehicle had hit it. The tachometer and oil pressure gauge both dropped to 0. The technician found codes P0776 and P2854, indicating issues with the transmission control solenoid valve and clutch 2 pressure discharge. Diagnostics showed the transmission fluid was full of no debris. A bulletin suggested a possible dislodged snap ring in the direct clutch assembly, which was followed, and the park position sensor was confirmed to be within GM specs. The technician updated the transmission control module and performed a service fast learn procedure. After driving the vehicle for approximately 74 miles and rechecking, no codes or driving issues were present. TAC concluded that a sticking valve in the main valve body was cleared by the service procedure. The second customer complaint involved the vehicle jerking when placed in reverse, as if another vehicle had hit it, though no one was nearby. The third complaint was about a knocking noise from the vehicle during cold starts, which the customer suspected was related to the torque converter.
October 15, 2024–December 9, 2024: Check Engine Light / Reverse Issues / Valve Body Replacement
The vehicle was inspected, and the customer’s concern about the check engine light being on was verified. Additionally, intermittent issues with reverse gear were found. Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0776, P2856, and P0700 were detected in the transmission control module. After contacting TAC (Case #9-13882888191), they recommended performing multiple GDS2 session logs and submitting them for review. Following the data review, TAC advised replacing the main valve body. The valve body was replaced, along with a new filter, new fluid, and one-time use bolts. A fluid level check and hydraulics test were performed, followed by a test drive. The transmission’s shifting operation was verified, and the repairs were confirmed.
February 5, 2025–March 7, 2025: Burning Transmission Fluid Smell / Rear Squeak
The customer reported smelling what seemed like burning transmission fluid after driving for 30-45 minutes and requested an inspection. The technician inspected and test drove the vehicle but found no fluid leaks or abnormal burning smells. The customer also mentioned hearing a squeaking noise from the rear driver side while driving over bumps. After multiple test drives and an inspection of the rear suspension and previous work on the vehicle, no abnormal squeaking or loose/damaged components were found.
December 17, 2025–January 6, 2026: No Reverse / Idle Creep Disabled / Transmission Replacement
The customer reports that when attempting to reverse the car, it wouldn’t shift into reverse and could only move forward. The check engine light came on, and the IPC message stated, “Idle Creep Disabled.” The vehicle would only shift into 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th gears and wouldn’t respond to the paddle shifters. On January 6, 2026, transmission service diagnostics were approved as per TAC. Excessive parts, including the transmission, retainer, nut, fluid, washer, and seals, were approved to be replaced to complete the repairs. Internal damage to control solenoid 4 was also noted.
