How your Nevada claim gets built

Our lemon law work is directed by Steven P. Nassi, Esq., Managing Partner, Easy Lemon by RockPoint Law P.C. A Nevada claim gets built on two things: the Nevada lemon law statute, and the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, which applies in all fifty states. Send the repair orders and the purchase or lease paperwork, and we can tell you which of the two fits your vehicle.

Reno Lemon Law

Reno Lemon Law Basics

Claims from Reno fall under Nev. Rev. Stat. §597.600 to §597.688, which covers new motor vehicles purchased or leased in Nevada for personal, family, or household purposes. If the defect is still there once your repair orders reach one of the repair limits in the box above, and you are within the deadline, you may have a claim. Our Nevada Lemon Law Attorneys page has the statute text, the deadlines and the used-car rules.

Step by Step

How a Reno Lemon Law Claim Works

This is what happens after you call us from Reno.

1

Document Your Repairs

Keep every repair order from your Reno dealership, even the short ones. NV lemon law needs written proof of each repair attempt, and those papers are the proof.

2

Free Case Evaluation

We read your repair history against the Nevada statute and tell you whether the car qualifies. The review costs nothing, and there are no attorney's fees unless we recover for you.

3

We File the Claim

We write and send the paperwork, including any written notice to the manufacturer that NV law requires. We deal with the manufacturer for you.

4

You Get Compensated

The case ends with a refund, a replacement vehicle or a cash settlement. There are no attorney's fees unless we recover for you.

Is Your Reno Car a Lemon? Nevada's 3-Step Test

1

Does the Defect Substantially Impair Use, Value, or Safety?

Under Nevada law, the defect has to substantially impair the vehicle's use, value, or safety. These defects came up in one of Easy Lemon's own Nevada cases:

  • ⚠️2024 Lincoln Navigator: Persistent brake/drive vibration
  • ⚠️2024 Lincoln Navigator: Loose chassis bolts
  • ⚠️2024 Lincoln Navigator: Body and trim issues
2

Have You Met the Repair Attempt Threshold?

In Nevada the test is 4 repair attempts for the same defect, or 30 cumulative calendar days out of service, as long as the claim is brought within the deadline in step 3. Count the visits on your repair orders to see where you stand.

3

Did It Happen Within the Rights Period?

In Nevada the deadline is 18 months after the date of original delivery of the vehicle to the buyer. We check it against the delivery date on your contract and the dates on your repair orders.

If you are not sure about your dates, call us. The consultation is free. 📞 (855) 435-3666

If you are past the deadline, call us anyway. We may still be able to help.

Washoe County

Court and Venue in Reno

Reno is in Washoe County. Washoe County's general civil trial court is the Second Judicial District Court. Nevada also has a lower court for smaller civil claims, so the amount in dispute can change where a case is filed. Which court hears a particular case still depends on its facts, the warranty issues involved and the law it is brought under.

The Nevada lemon law is Nev. Rev. Stat. §597.600 to §597.688. If the manufacturer's informal dispute program substantially complies with federal rules (16 C.F.R. Part 703), the buyer must submit the claim there first.

The repair test in the statute is 4 repair attempts for the same defect, or 30 cumulative calendar days with the vehicle out of service. The statutory remedy is a replacement vehicle or full refund (minus reasonable use offset). A consumer who prevails may recover attorney fees.

What the Statute Says

Nevada Lemon Law - New Vehicle Warranty Act: The Rules That Decide a Reno Claim

Looking for the repair test, the deadline or the arbitration rule? Those are under Court and Venue above. Nevada law has a few more rules, and they are listed here.

Notable provisions of Nevada Lemon Law - New Vehicle Warranty Act

Nevada covers the manufacturer’s express warranty period or the first year after delivery, whichever ends earlier. The presumption is 4 repair attempts or 30 cumulative calendar days out of service. NRS 597.600 to 597.688 provides no reduced-attempt route for safety-related defects.

Your Rights Under NV Law

What The Manufacturer Owes You

By statute, the Nevada remedy is replacement vehicle or full refund (minus reasonable use offset). When a Reno car qualifies under NV law, the case usually ends in one of three ways.

$

Refund

The manufacturer buys the car back. It repays the price along with the taxes, registration fees and finance charges, but it may deduct a reasonable use offset.

Replacement Vehicle

Instead of money you get a comparable new car, and the swap costs you nothing.

$

Cash Settlement

The statute does not set this one. It comes from negotiation: you keep the car, and the manufacturer pays for the value the defect took off it.

Have Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

The answers below are based on Nevada law and on the paperwork Reno drivers usually send us.

PROCESS & TIMELINE
Bring the repair orders from your Reno dealer, your purchase or lease contract and your warranty booklet. Of the three, the repair orders carry the case. Each one shows the date, the mileage and what the service department did or did not fix. If a few are missing, ask the service desk for copies.
Usually not. Most lemon law cases we handle for Reno drivers settle with the manufacturer before a lawsuit is filed. On arbitration, the Nevada rule is: a buyer must first submit the claim under the manufacturer’s informal dispute settlement procedure if it substantially complies with 16 C.F.R. Part 703. We prepare that filing for you.
ELIGIBILITY
It may. Under Nev. Rev. Stat. §597.600 to §597.688, your Reno car can qualify if a defect covered by the warranty is still there after 4 repair attempts for the same defect, or 30 cumulative calendar days out of service. The statute covers new motor vehicles purchased or leased in Nevada for personal, family, or household purposes.
We handle any warranty defect that substantially impairs the car's use, value or safety and that the dealer could not fix. The defects we see most often are engine stalling and misfires, transmission shudder or failure, electrical faults, brake and steering problems, and driver-assist systems that brake or drift on their own. Nevada covers the manufacturer’s express warranty period or the first year after delivery, whichever ends earlier.
ATTORNEY & TRUST
No. Our offices are in Manhasset NY, Newark NJ, Miami FL and Dallas TX. We handle Nevada cases by phone, email and e-signature. You upload your repair orders, your contract and your warranty booklet. We send the demand letter and handle the settlement paperwork. Nothing in Nev. Rev. Stat. §597.600 to §597.688 requires you to appear anywhere to open a claim. On arbitration, the Nevada rule is: a buyer must first submit the claim under the manufacturer’s informal dispute settlement procedure if it substantially complies with 16 C.F.R. Part 703.
You will have one assigned attorney and a direct line. You get a copy of every letter we send and a note whenever the manufacturer responds. We first check your repair history against Nev. Rev. Stat. §597.600 to §597.688. Then written notice goes to the manufacturer, and we demand the statutory remedy, replacement vehicle or full refund (minus reasonable use offset). Most cases settle at that stage. If a case does not settle, we take the next formal step that Nevada law requires.

“I honestly didn't think I had a case. My Subaru's engine consumed a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. Dealer said it was 'within spec.' Did that three times. I just figured I'd live with it.
My brother-in-law, a mechanic, said 'that's not normal for a modern engine. Call someone.' So I did. I spoke to Steven Nassi at Easy Lemon.
He explained that excessive oil consumption is a known defect in certain Subaru engines. He'd handled similar cases. He said, 'They tell you it's normal because they don't want to replace the short block.' He already knew the internal service bulletins.
His team filed the claim. Subaru settled with a cash payment that covered my oil expenses and then some. I was genuinely surprised it worked.
Why different? Steven saw a pattern I didn't know existed. They don't just take cases; they know manufacturer secrets.”

“My Tesla Model Y had three things wrong that the service center couldn't fix: 1) Phantom braking on highway. 2) Passenger door handle wouldn't present half the time. 3) Rattling from the rear seat area they blamed on 'road noise.' I had service invoices showing four attempts on the brakes, two on the handle, and three on the rattle. Called Easy Lemon. Aaron Waldo took it. He didn't treat them as three small problems. He argued they collectively impaired the vehicle's safety and value. Manufacturer settled with a cash payout plus extended warranty on the remaining issues. They bundle your headaches into one real case."”
