How your Louisiana claim gets built
Our lemon law work is directed by Steven P. Nassi, Esq., Managing Partner, Easy Lemon by RockPoint Law P.C. A Louisiana claim gets built on two things: the Louisiana lemon law statute, and the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, which applies in all fifty states. Send the repair orders and the purchase or lease paperwork, and we can tell you which of the two fits your vehicle.

Shreveport Lemon Law Basics
Shreveport drivers file under Louisiana's statute, La. Rev. Stat. §51:1941 to §51:1948. If the dealer can't fix a warranty defect after 4 repair attempts for the same defect, or the car sits in the shop for 45 cumulative calendar days, you can ask for a refund, a replacement or a cash payment. The manufacturer can also be ordered to pay your attorney's fees. Statute text, filing deadlines and how used cars are treated are on our Louisiana Lemon Law Attorneys page.

Is Your Shreveport Car a Lemon? Louisiana's 3-Step Test
Does the Defect Substantially Impair Use, Value, or Safety?
The defect must materially affect how you drive, how much your vehicle is worth, or how safe it is to operate. In Shreveport, common qualifying defects include:
- ⚠️AC/COOLING FAILURE from extreme northwest Louisiana heat exceeding 105°F with Red River valley humidity on I-20 and I-49
- ⚠️TRANSMISSION FAILURE from I-20/I-49 interchange congestion and bumper-to-bumper traffic on Youree Drive
- ⚠️ELECTRICAL SYSTEM MALFUNCTION from Red River flooding and year-round subtropical humidity corroding wiring systems
- ⚠️SUSPENSION DAMAGE from deteriorating roads on Greenwood Road and potholed surfaces in the Highland neighborhood
Have You Met the Repair Attempt Threshold?
Louisiana's Lemon Law triggers when any of these conditions are met, so long as you bring your claim within 3 years from the date of purchase or 1 year from the end of the warranty period, whichever is longer:
Did It Happen Within the Rights Period?
The clock starts on the day you take delivery of your vehicle, not when you first report the defect, not when you file a complaint. Under Louisiana law, a claim must generally be brought within 3 years from the date of purchase or 1 year from the end of the warranty period, whichever is longer. If you're still within that window, or if your defect first appeared within the window and persists, you almost certainly qualify.
When in doubt, call. The consultation is always free. 📞 (855) 435-3666

Shreveport Driving Conditions & Why Defects Emerge Here
Shreveport's coastal location creates a uniquely challenging environment for motor vehicles. Salt air, humidity, and bridge crossings all contribute to accelerated wear and defects.
🗺️ Local Driving Demands
Shreveport drivers navigate demanding corridors including I-20, I-49, I-220, US-71, US-80, and Youree Drive daily. Higher mileage from daily commuting influences the usage offset in lemon law claims. The earlier you report defects, the lower your offset and the stronger your case.
🌉 The Bridge Factor
The major bridge and highway infrastructure including the I-20 Red River Bridge, the Texas Street Bridge, and the I-220/Red River interchange create load profiles that expose transmission hesitation and engine defects flat-road driving conceals. Clients report vehicles that "drive fine on flat roads" but exhibit problems under load.
🌊 Coastal & Salt Air Exposure
Shreveport's coastal location exposes vehicles to salt-laden air and humidity year-round. Salt corrosion attacks electrical connectors invisibly, causing intermittent faults that dealers can't "duplicate." Our attorneys document these coastal damage patterns.
🌡️ Climate Stress on Vehicles
Shreveport's seasonal temperature range, from summer highs to winter lows, creates thermal cycling that stresses HVAC, cooling, and electrical systems over time. Louisiana's Lemon Law recognizes these climate-related failures as a substantial impairment.
🚗 Heavy Commuter Traffic
Shreveport's major traffic corridors including I-20, I-49, I-220, US-71, US-80, and Youree Drive create heavy stop-and-go conditions that stress transmission fluid temperatures, cooling systems, and hybrid/EV battery management. These could qualify as lemon law defects.
Newest Vehicle Recalls on File
NHTSA recall records are national, not filed by state. These are the three newest vehicle recalls in our NHTSA mirror; they are not Louisiana-specific.

Louisiana Lemon Law - New Motor Vehicle Warranty Rights Act: The Rules That Decide a Shreveport Claim
Repair-attempt presumption in Louisiana
4 repair attempts for the same defect, or 45 cumulative calendar days out of service.
Arbitration before suit
Yes - a consumer must first resort to the manufacturer’s informal dispute settlement procedure if it substantially complies with 16 C.F.R. Part 703.
Filing deadline
Within 3 years from the date of purchase or 1 year from the end of the warranty period, whichever is longer.
Notable provisions of Louisiana Lemon Law - New Motor Vehicle Warranty Rights Act
Louisiana allows 45 calendar days out of service, not the 30 common elsewhere. The consumer must report the nonconformity and make the vehicle available for repair within the warranty term or the first year, whichever ends earlier. The manufacturer keeps a final attempt to cure but waives it by failing to respond in time. Vehicles rated 10,000 GVW or above are excluded.
