2025 Toyota Tacoma Repair History: What the Repair Orders Show
Visit 1: December 1-4, 2025
- The owner reported that their vehicle's tires seem to lock up intermittently when downshifting from around 30 MPH, a concern they've experienced multiple times and can often recreate by stopping, accelerating to 30 MPH, and then letting the vehicle slow down.
- A diagnostic was performed, which successfully duplicated the issue with the owner present.
- The inspection revealed no visual abnormalities and no standard diagnostic trouble codes were present.
- However, raw data revealed specific codes (X20A2, X05A6, X05AE, and X20A0).
- Further inspection confirmed the rear speed sensor wiring passed inspection and all tires were within OEM specifications.
- The issue was not present when driving with OEM spec wheels and tires installed.
- Once the original wheels and tires were reinstalled, the issue returned and the raw codes reappeared.
- Data monitoring showed the passenger rear tire speed reading faster than the others.
- The tire diameters were measured, and the tires were all different sizes; the driver front tire was the biggest and the passenger rear tire was the smallest.
- This discrepancy in tire diameters was causing the vehicle's computer system to detect slippage, resulting in the intermittent braking of the wheels.
- The recommendation is for the owner to return to the place where the tires were installed and have them replaced with a matching set to resolve the issue.
Visit 2: January 5-10, 2026
- The owner reported a rattling noise coming from behind the headliner in the rear passenger corner when driving on rough or uneven roads.
- Multiple test drives were conducted to address this general concern, but the vibration could not be replicated.
- A complimentary multi-point inspection (MPI) was completed as part of the service.
- Another owner reported a separate issue of hard shifting and locking of the rear wheels, mainly during deceleration from 40 miles per hour to a complete stop, a concern for which they are returning for further inspection as the traction light has illuminated.
Visit 3: January 12-February 4, 2026
- The owner reported that the vehicle experiences abrupt, hard shifting and the rear wheels lock up when decelerating from 40 MPH.
- Technicians replaced the transmission, hybrid module assembly, transmission oil cooler, and the radiator assembly per TAS due to fluid contamination.
