Case Overview

Recurring Battery, Electrical & Transmission Defects on a Nearly New Mercedes-AMG GT 63

Our client purchased a new 2024 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 63 from an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer in Florida. The problems began almost immediately — the first repair visit came at just 1,853 miles. Over four documented visits, the vehicle's check engine light repeatedly returned with a high-voltage battery fault (diagnostic trouble code P2C8919), required a full high-voltage battery replacement, and developed separate transmission and electronic ignition switch failures. In total the vehicle spent 91 days out of service for repairs within its first year of ownership.

Documented Repair Visits

1

December 18, 2024 – January 16, 2025 (30 days)

The check engine light was on. Technicians found diagnostic trouble code P2C8919 and determined the high-voltage battery control module was out of calibration; a battery management system reset was performed. A heavy wind noise from the front passenger window and right front door at highway speed was traced to warped door-frame and A/B pillar seals, and the right front door seal was replaced.

2

January 29 – March 6, 2025 (37 days)

The vehicle would intermittently fail to start and the check engine light returned. Diagnostic trouble code P2C8919 had recurred, and the high-voltage battery was replaced.

3

July 9 – 23, 2025 (15 days)

A heavy jerk was felt from the transmission when slowing down. Technicians performed a transmission standstill adaptation and a recall update to the high-voltage starter-alternator software.

4

September 15 – 23, 2025 (9 days)

A jerk was felt on downshift with the check engine light on. Fault codes U02A608, U016800 and U016887 led technicians to replace the electronic ignition switch (EZS) module.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Mercedes-AMG GT vehicles have known battery or electrical issues?
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 is a high-performance vehicle with a complex high-voltage electrical architecture. In this case the vehicle experienced a recurring high-voltage battery fault (diagnostic trouble code P2C8919) that required both a battery management system reset and, later, full replacement of the high-voltage battery, along with transmission and electronic ignition switch faults. When the same fault returns after repair, or multiple unrelated systems fail on a nearly new vehicle, it can indicate a substantial defect under state lemon law.
Does the Florida Lemon Law cover a new Mercedes-Benz purchased in Florida?
Yes. Florida's Lemon Law (the Motor Vehicle Warranty Enforcement Act, Chapter 681) applies to most new motor vehicles purchased or leased in Florida. If a substantial defect that impairs the vehicle's use, value, or safety cannot be repaired after a reasonable number of attempts within the 24-month Lemon Law Rights Period, the consumer may be entitled to a replacement or a refund/buyback.
How many repair attempts or days out of service qualify under Florida law?
Under Florida law, a reasonable number of attempts is generally presumed when the same substantial defect has been subject to repair three or more times, or when the vehicle is out of service for repair of one or more defects for a cumulative total of 30 or more days, within the Lemon Law Rights Period — after the manufacturer has been given a final opportunity to repair. In this case the vehicle had four documented repair visits and was out of service for 91 days.
How does Easy Lemon handle Mercedes-Benz lemon law claims in Florida?
Easy Lemon handles the Florida lemon law process and negotiates directly with Mercedes-Benz USA at no out-of-pocket cost* to the client. When a consumer prevails, the manufacturer pays the attorney fees. Our attorneys manage the written notification, documentation of repair attempts and days out of service, and settlement negotiations from start to finish.
