2024 Jeep Wagoneer S Lemon Law Case Study: Illinois
A 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S With No-Start, Battery, Charge Status Indicator, and Electrical Draw Defects
Our client purchased a 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S in Illinois (intake purchase / lease date: March 2025). Documented repair history describes a miles-on-dash warning that was on and blinking (corrected in an 11A RSU), a later visit where the vehicle would not start and no work was performed, alarms and lights going off with a battery that eventually died, high-voltage wiring tested and replaced, a depleted battery requiring a jump-start, stored low-voltage codes and an active code B12B4 for the internal charge status indicator module (module replaced after STAR consultation), an August 8, 2025 software update with EVCU module reprogramming, and a later tow for battery failure with a no-start condition, 12-volt battery replacement after failure, an intermittent draw of up to 16.0 amps, and engineering advice to replace the Electric Air Compressor (EAC). Current mileage on the odometer: 9,100. Intake primary problem categories: Engine/ Transmission; Electrical/ Technology; Safety. Intake also indicates the vehicle was in the repair shop for more than 30 days at some point.
The summary of repairs documents that after the charge status indicator module replacement and EVCU reprogramming, the vehicle was later towed due to battery failure, and STAR/engineering advised replacing the Electric Air Compressor (EAC) suspected of causing the intermittent draw. With those electrical and battery defects documented across the service visits described below, the client contacted Easy Lemon for legal assistance under the lemon law.
What Went Wrong
- Miles on dash blinking: “Miles on dash was on and blinking.” Technician verified the concern, and the issue was corrected in 11A RSU.
- No-start / no work performed: “The vehicle would not start. No work was performed during this visit.”
- Alarms, lights, depleted battery / charge status indicator module (B12B4): “Alarms and lights went off on the vehicle and the battery eventually died.” High-voltage wiring was tested and replaced. A scan revealed several stored low-voltage codes and an active code B12B4 for the internal charge status indicator module; after consulting with STAR, the technician replaced the faulty charge status indicator module.
- EVCU software update: Software update performed and the EVCU module was reprogrammed.
- Battery failure / intermittent draw / Electric Air Compressor (EAC): The vehicle was towed due to battery failure with a no-start condition and no power present; the 12-volt battery failed testing and was replaced; an intermittent draw of up to 16.0 amps was found; engineering advised replacing the Electric Air Compressor (EAC).
What the Documented Service Visits Showed
April 18–May 2, 2025: Miles on Dash Blinking / 11A RSU
Miles on dash was on and blinking. Technician verified the concern, and the issue was corrected in 11A RSU.
May 12–July 9, 2025: Would Not Start / No Work Performed
The vehicle would not start. No work was performed during this visit.
June 4–June 30, 2025: Alarms / Lights / Depleted Battery / Charge Status Indicator Module (B12B4)
Alarms and lights went off on the vehicle and the battery eventually died. High-voltage wiring was tested and replaced. The vehicle was found with a depleted battery that required a jump-start. The 12-volt battery passed the health check. A scan revealed several stored low-voltage codes and an active code B12B4 for the internal charge status indicator module. After consulting with STAR, the technician replaced the faulty charge status indicator module. After the repair, the vehicle was powered back up, all codes were cleared, and a test drive verified proper operation.
August 8, 2025: Software Update / EVCU Reprogrammed
Software update performed and the EVCU module was reprogrammed.
September 18–October 27, 2025: Battery Failure Tow / 16.0 Amp Draw / Electric Air Compressor (EAC)
The vehicle was towed due to battery failure. It was experiencing a no-start condition with no power present, so the 12-volt battery was removed for testing and failed, leading to its replacement. After replacement, an intermittent draw of up to 16.0 amps was found. A case was created with STAR, and engineering advised replacing the Electric Air Compressor (EAC), which was suspected to be causing the draw. High-voltage power down, a loss of isolation test, and A/C system evacuation were performed in preparation for the EAC replacement.
