2024 Ford F-250 Repair History: What the Repair Orders Show
Visit 1: December 26-31, 2024
- The owner reported a squealing noise when applying the brakes.
- Our technician verified this issue and performed a full four-wheel brake inspection.
- The brake fluid level was correct, and all brake pads were found to have 10 mm of remaining thickness (well within specification).
- However, the front brake rotors displayed heat marks and spots, which were determined to be the source of the noise.
- To resolve this issue, the technician put the vehicle in brake service mode, removed the front rotors and resurfaced them professionally to remove the heat spots. This reduced their thickness from an initial 37.4 mm on the left and 37.3 mm on the right to a final 37.1 mm and 36.9 mm, respectively (still above the 36.5 mm minimum specification).
- The brake pads were cleaned and scuffed, and the system was reassembled, quality checked and is now operating correctly without noise.
Visit 2: January 28-31, 2025
- The owner reported that their truck shakes at highway speeds and lacks power, especially when pulling a trailer.
- A technician verified these driveability concerns and performed an inspection, finding no obvious issues.
- A diagnostic scan with the Ford Diagnostic and Repair System (FDRS) detected trouble code P0194, which indicated an issue with the fuel rail pressure (FRP) sensor.
- The technician accessed the sensor by removing the charge air cooler (CAC) to turbo cooler tube after performing specific pinpoint tests that showed the sensor was out of specification.
- The faulty FRP sensor was replaced with a new part, and all components were reinstalled and torqued according to the service manual specifications.
- The fuel system was primed and all diagnostic codes were cleared. A final road test confirmed that the repair was successful and the system is working as designed.
Visit 3: February 19-March 24, 2025
- The owner reported significant issues with their truck swaying, floating all over the road, and shaking at speeds over 50 mph.
- The technician verified these concerns with a road test and also ran a Noise Vibration Harshness (NVH) diagnostic test using specialized equipment; this test pinpointed the rear driveshaft as the source of the vibration.
- To correct the issue, the rear driveshaft was accessed, removed, and replaced.
- The rear driveshaft slip yoke was cleaned and lubricated before the entire assembly was reinstalled.
Visit 4: May 13-Jul 2, 2025
- The owner reported a vehicle shudder during acceleration, which a technician verified as a significant vibration under load around 20 mph.
- After initial testing with a Field Service Engineer (FSE) using a Noise Vibration Harshness (NVH) analyzer, an attempt to adjust driveline angles with spacers did not fix the problem. The problem was found inside the rear differential.
- Upon inspection, metal shards and metallic fluid were discovered; this indicated pitting in the carrier bearings.
- The technician put in new differential and side bearings and resealed and refilled the differential unit. A test drive afterward confirmed that the harsh vibration was resolved.
