Repair History

2023 Subaru BRZ Repair History: What the Repair Orders Show

Visit 1: September 8, 2025–March 5, 2026

  • The technician performed an engine teardown due to a knocking noise when the engine was revved.
  • Upon inspection, it was found that the driver-side cylinder four tube seal was leaking oil, causing the engine to run low on oil.
  • This lack of lubrication resulted in a spun rod bearing #4.
  • All four sparks plug tube seals were found to be torn and damaged; this added to the oil loss and engine failure.
  • The technician replaced the engine assembly, performed a valve adjustment, and completed an ECM update.

Visit 2: March 12, 2026

  • The owner reported a knocking noise when the engine was revved.
  • During the inspection, the technician noticed an oil leak at the cylinder four tube seal. The leak left the engine running low on oil and caused the rod bearing to spin.
  • The spark plug tube seals were also found to be damaged; this added to the oil loss.
  • The technician replaced the engine assembly, performed a valve adjustment, and completed an ECM update.

Visit 3: March 19-April 14, 2026

  • Owner reported overheating/high coolant temperature warnings and intermittent stalling.
  • During diagnostic work, technicians noticed intermittent loss of communication with the ECM due to a problem with engine wiring; wiggling the wires caused failures and codes, which suggested a suspected break in the power/ground circuit.
  • The engine wiring was replaced, after which the vehicle started reliably and no longer exhibited overheating concerns.
  • A 25-point inspection and multipoint check were completed, and the battery was replaced under body electrical repairs due to not holding a charge.
