Our client leased a new Volkswagen ID. Buzz from Volkswagen Princeton in New Jersey. Within months of delivery, the vehicle experienced cascading electrical failures — the charging port would not open, the vehicle would not start, and all warning lights appeared — requiring the vehicle to be towed to the dealer. Over three repair visits spanning more than 111 cumulative days in the shop, core electrical issues continued to resurface.

Documented Repair Visits

1

July 2 – October 14, 2025 (104 days)

The vehicle was towed in because the charging port would not open, all warning lights appeared after charging, and the vehicle would not start. Technicians determined the JX1 with J841 charging module had an internal malfunction and replaced it. After replacement, neither key was being read — technicians followed TAC guidance to successfully reprogram the key.

2

October 14–21, 2025 (7 days)

Warning lights returned for drive system error, travel assist, and cruise control. Technicians found a fault for function limitation due to wheel speed deviation. TAC advised checking for broken or loose connectors — none were found. Faults were cleared.

3

October 24, 2025 – Present (ongoing)

A loaner agreement dated October 24, 2025 confirms the vehicle's return for additional repairs. The same warning light issues recurred and the vehicle remained at the dealership for ongoing repairs.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Volkswagen ID. Buzz vehicles have charging or electrical problems?
The Volkswagen ID. Buzz is a newly introduced all-electric vehicle based on the MEB platform. Early production vehicles have exhibited charging system failures, drive system error warnings, and electrical module malfunctions. Given the vehicle's complexity and the relative newness of the platform in the US market, some early adopters have experienced extended dealership repair stays.
Does New Jersey lemon law apply to leased electric vehicles?
Yes. New Jersey's Lemon Law (N.J. Stat. Ann. § 56:12-29 et seq.) covers both purchased and leased new motor vehicles, including electric vehicles. If a substantial defect cannot be repaired within a reasonable number of attempts, or the vehicle is out of service for 20 or more cumulative calendar days, New Jersey consumers may be entitled to a remedy.
My EV was in the shop for over 100 days — what are my rights?
Over 100 days in the shop for a nearly new vehicle strongly supports a lemon law claim. New Jersey's lemon law threshold of 20 cumulative out-of-service days was far exceeded in this case. Cases with extended shop time often result in full buyback settlements given the clear evidence of the manufacturer's inability to repair the vehicle.
How does Easy Lemon handle Volkswagen lemon law claims?
Easy Lemon's attorneys have resolved claims against Volkswagen Group across multiple states. We handle demand letters, arbitration proceedings, and direct negotiations with VW's legal team at no cost to you. Volkswagen pays attorney fees upon a successful resolution under applicable lemon law statutes.
